I found some interesting information on burning fat and thought that I would share it. I've been doing something similar and so far I've lost 12 pounds since we went for the screening at the YMCA.
First figure up how many calories your body requires to maintain itself:
Women
Men
Then figure up your body fat % if you don't already know it:
Body Fat Calculator
Then figure up how many pounds of fat you have by multiplying your body weight by your body fat percentage:
(In my case) 184 x .14 = 25.76
Then multiply the pounds of fat by 31 to get the amount of calories your body can provide daily from your stored fat:
25.76 x 31 = 798.56
Now deduct this from the calories you need to maintain your current weight:
2,080 - 798.56 = 1,281.44
So, using these results you can safely consume the resulting amount of calories without adverse effects like muscle loss and simply burn some of your fat instead. If you begin to exercise more often or rigorously or you start losing weight eventually you'll need to rerun the numbers again.
In addition to this, there was a study done 80 years ago which determined that there are 3 different basic body types all of which require different amounts of proteins, carbs and fat. The percentages for each and information about the different requirements for each body types can be found at the following links:
